BEN
WILSON – NON-EVENT AT MALLORY
For
the third time in as many races, Ben Wilson was defeated by the
weather when both free practise and qualifying were abandoned at
Mallory Park on Friday and Saturday.
Ben,
from Boston, was due to ride the Crescent Performance Suzuki in
the Maxxis British Supersport race at the Leicestershire circuit
but lack of qualifying time meant the grid was formed on
championship points. With 37 riders all vying for 32 places Ben
was unlucky to be excluded.
“This
was to be a one-off ride for me so obviously I hadn’t had the
opportunity to score points in previous rounds. Although I am
naturally disappointed it was obvious the regular Supersport
riders would be chosen before me – and quite rightly so.
“I
will possibly get another opportunity to ride the Performance
Suzuki machine, perhaps at Cadwell where I tested it last week.
The bike felt good and I instantly felt at home on it so was
hopeful of a good result at Mallory.
“But
the weather was against us, I did go out for a few laps on Friday
as we were first practise of the day but the conditions got
steadily worse and I pulled in after posting the 10th
fastest time. We are at Croft next in three weeks time so
hopefully the weather will have changed by then – lets face it,
it can’t get much worse!”
Ben
will be reunited with his Windmill Suzuki Superstock machine for
the Croft round of the Metzeler Racetec Superstock championship on
August 12 where, after three postponed races he remains in fourth
place in the title chase. He will be hunting down a strong result
to edge his way closer to a top three position in the standings.
Following
the tragic events of Friday which took 21-year-old Ollie Bridewell
from us, Team Windmill Suzuki join with everyone in the British
Superbike community to extend their deepest sympathies to the
Bridewell family and Team Naturally Best for their loss.
