BEN
WILSON – BRANDS HATCH 05
Brands Hatch was the venue for the final two races
of the 2005 Bennetts British Superbike Championship where the Vivaldi
Racing team completed its first season in this high profile series with
a further set of points finishes.
Ben Wilson scored a 12th and 13th
Starting from a sixth row grid position Ben Wilson
was quick to anticipate the lights in the opening race and soon moved
through to hold 12th place, passing his team mate Scott Smart
in the process. But Scott fought back in the closing laps to reclaim his
position leaving Ben to cross the finish line for 13th place.
As the final race got underway Ben was again quick to move forward
continuing to make progress through the mid fielders to take the
chequered flag in 12th place.
“I am pleased to have ended my season with two points finishes,”
said Ben. “That places me 17th in the final rider standings
which is not a bad position for my first season in the class. But I need
to address my qualifying tactics and aim for a higher gird position next
year as this has kept me away from scoring higher race finishes this
year.”
Reflecting on his team’s progress this year team manager Richard
Wilson said: “We have made steady progress throughout the season. The
British Superbike is very competitive and although my riders have posted
some respectable tomes in qualifying, the goal posts have been
continually moved as the works teams post faster and faster times and if
we are to progress next year we need to raise our game even higher.
“As
a team we have all enjoyed our first year in the series and I am
confident that Vivaldi Racing will return next year to build on our
success in 2005.”
